Anne-Marie Parfeniuk

Co-Founder, Insurance Specialist at CDHPP

With over a decade of experience as a Dental Hygienist, Anne-Marie witnessed a significant gap in health benefits and insurance coverage for Dental Health Professionals. Motivated to address this need, she partnered with her husband, Michael, to create the Canadian Dental Health Professionals Plan (CDHPP). Their mission is to provide tailored health benefits and insurance solutions designed specifically for Dental Health Professionals and their families.

As a dedicated Mother of two, Anne-Marie values the importance of family and work-life balance. Her passion for helping others drives her commitment to securing the best coverage for her clients. Outside of her professional life, Anne-Marie enjoys cooking, reading, and spending quality time with her loved ones. She is proud to contribute to a movement that seeks to elevate the Dental Health profession and make a meaningful difference in the lives of her peers.

Michael Hamel

Co-Founder, Consultant at CDHPP

With nearly 15 years of experience in the insurance industry, Michael has built a strong foundation of expertise while working for leading Canadian insurance companies, including Manulife, Sun Life, and SSQ Insurance, where he served as Director of Business Development. Now, as a Consultant at the Canadian Dental Health Professionals Plan (CDHPP), Michael supports Anne-Marie in developing tailored health and insurance solutions for Dental Health Professionals and their families, providing expert guidance when needed.

An avid hockey fan and player, Michael enjoys spending his free time at his family cottage in Muskoka, surrounded by loved ones. He resides in Ontario with his wife, Anne-Marie, and their two children, Savannah and Austin.

Steven Parfeniuk

Tax and Financial Planning Expert

Steven is a CPA CMA with more than 25 years of experience in personal tax, self-employment tax and corporate tax. Steven has a comprehensive understanding of tax law in Canada and currently works as a Tax Expert with Intuit Canada (Turbo Tax). He currently holds a Bachelor of Commerce from McMaster University and a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from Royal Roads University.

Steven works with Dental Hygienists who are employees of a dental office, self-employed as sole proprietors, and corporate entities. Steven’s additional clients have ranged from single-wage earners to parents with and without children, unincorporated professionals, pensioners, and incorporated businesses.

Steven can assist you with your tax filing and to develop a financial plan to ensure your future. The latter will include developing, with you, a full and comprehensive budget based on your individual or family needs and ensuring you have the plan to retire successfully.

An avid cyclist, Steven recently completed a 3,000-kilometer journey from Toronto, Ontario, Canada to Austin, Texas. This journey was in support of Cancer Wellness Centers in the Greater Toronto Area of Ontario, Canada. Steven is also a 4-time ironman and is now learning to sail with his wife, Jacqueline.

If you’re thinking about disability insurance (or other insurances) for yourself, then please read!

I’m a newer grad and knew I wanted to get insurance for myself. I had no idea what to look for, which companies to go with, barely any info on how to find out what I’d need, or what a reasonable cost was for plans. I did my own “homework” and started to compare a lot of different companies, but was still overhelmed & struggling to make sure I found appropriate coverage for what I needed. Insurance jargon is so confusing and I found it hard to find the info I needed.

When I was looking into disability insurance, I read a post in another hygiene group about Michael Hamel & the Canadian Dental Hygienist Protection Plan (CDHPP). He’s an insurance specialist who created the CDHPP. I ended up getting in touch with him and he was INCREDIBLY helpful. He took time to meet with me over phone and zoom (multiple times) to talk about what insurances/coverages he’d recommend for an RDH and for me specifically. He sent PowerPoints specific to my needs and income. I’m the kind of person who likes everything explained in painful detail to ensure I fully understand concepts and he had no problem doing that lol he was so thorough and it was awesome!

I’ve talked to some other insurance people and didn’t get trusting vibes from them (not a fan of ProLink through the ODHA from my experiences with them), but you can tell Michael is a genuine guy. He has a personal connection to an RDH so he definitely understands the needs of our profession more than other insurance people would and he seems to really care about his clients. He really does try to get you the best prices and will tell you when you’re being offered a bad deal – which I definitely appreciated. He never pressures you to get a plan with him, and will make sure you have 100% understanding before making any decision so you know you’re making an educated choice that’s best for you.

I ended up getting disability insurance and critical illness insurance for myself through the CDHPP (which is exactly what I wanted) and I cannot recommend Michael and the CDHPP enough. I can confidently say that if I hadn’t gone through him and tried to do it solo, I wouldn’t have gotten 1. An understanding of insurance and 2. anything remotely as good of coverage as I do now. He is prompt to answer my questions and provide updates.

Also, just so you know: I am NOT getting compensated or anything for writing this review lol I’m just genuinely very pleased with his help over the past few months and would strongly encourage other RDH’s to reach out to talk to him if they’re considering getting or changing their personal insurances.
